Clouds and Fog of Yes camp

Last week it was Brian Cowen complaining of “clouds of confusion” created by the No to Lisbon campaigners and last night on RTE’s Questions and Answers it was foreign affairs minister Micheal Martin complaining of a “fog” created by the No camp.

Maybe it was the ‘confusing fog’ that made Martin tell the audience there was a week to the referendum day, it was just three days at the time of the broadcast!

If you didn’t watch last night it is a must see and can be caught on RTE’s website. Go to http://www.rte.ie/news/qanda/index.html.

Things to watch out for include Martin and Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny fail to make one real concrete reason to support the treaty, while Marylou MacDonald lead the No argument. She was brilliant, a calm oasis in comparison to the hectoring blusters of Kenny, Martin and others, but don’t believe me watch it for yourself.

Martin Kenny and others delivered the now familiar bluff of, ‘being at the centre of Europe’, of being ‘part of a more effective EU’, and not forgetting that a No vote could “endanger the influence and position that our small country has established”.

The last piece comes courtesy of Green Party leader John Gormley, who was blustering a bit on his own yesterday. Speaking at a meeting of European Greens in Dublin yesterday, he said, “Ireland has little to fear from Lisbon, and much to gain from being at the centre of a Union that will be more democratic and efficient as a result of a Yes vote”….

Fair enough John but could you be more specific on the “little to fear”…. Could it something to do with the odd used leaky nuclear reactor being pressed into service to ‘combat climate change’?

  1. Sir/Madam,
I’m a portuguese citizen and I will not be asked about the constitutional treaty. The prime-minister of my country has not fulfilled his solemn promise of doing a referendum – NEVER consulted about european matters. So, I decided to take some action:

I ask you only to disseminate the blog.
I’m not an anti-europeist, but I believe Europe must be built with the peoples approval and participation, not in their back.
Thank you for your time and attention,
    OM

  2. I wish to congratulate Mary Lou McDonald on her performance on Q&A . She was articulate, succinct and following her presentation even I who had been very confused felt I understood the important issues involved. Needless to say I voted no. Well done Mary Lou and Sinn Fein!.
